CQR are working closely with our client to find an outstanding candidate to join their Engineering Team as an Innovation Engineer; our clients Barnstaple site is an advanced manufacturing plant that adopts lean principles and continual improvement. This is an exciting and challenging role for an experienced engineer with a passion for Design Engineering and Innovations to join a growing and highly successful company. Main duties…

 

The Innovation Engineer’s main aim is to research and maintain to a current status, all relevant knowledge with respect to product design codes, standards, trends, legislation and technology that could have positive benefit to our clients products and business. To include a ‘technology watch’ on new materials, processes and relevant industrial trends for the same. To develop specifications such that they can be introduced into the manufacture of products, new or existing and into appropriate processes. To provide ideas and information relevant to support the company’s WINOVATION process and provide resource to project teams as required. To ‘bring into life’ new product concepts, prototypes and pre-production products as dictated by the WINOVATION process. In addition, as a member of the Innovation and Technology Department, the incumbent will help to provide high level technical advice and support both internally and externally on any material related product applications or issues.

 

  • To provide general technical support on new products and materials both internally and externally
  • To assist in the design of products from concept brief to practical solution, including undertaking all calculations to determine product performance criteria
  • To select appropriate materials for product specification and assist in vendor selection and evaluation
  • Create and maintain strong links with Industry experts, relevant academic bodies and other associations
  • To design and implement experimental techniques
  • To utilise the VAVE and other processes and achieve product/process cost reduction goals
  • To coordinate prototype production and evaluation
  • To be responsible for product performance testing, evaluation and reporting
  • To propose manufacturing process selection and evaluation
  • To create and formulate innovative product proposals based on technologies/trends and customer/marketplace needs for consideration at Ideation stage of WINOVATION

 

The right person…

 

  • Degree qualified (technical) or high degree of vocational (HND may be accepted)
  • Industry experience within the valve manufacturing or Oil & Gas and Chemical Process Industries
  • Industry design codes and standards such as ASME V111 and API 6A
  • 3D modelling, FEA and other design tools
  • Materials Technology and essential characteristics
  • Manufacturing processes and techniques; Materials processing
  • Design / Process FMEAs; Design of experiments
  • Engineering test laboratory, equipment / procedures
  • Project Management

  • Permanent positon; Monday to Thursday 8am to 4.30pm Friday 8.00am to 3.30pm
